$1,202 raised

Ended Aug 8, 2020

I am very happy to be one of the many readers participating in a marathon reading of children's stories to benefit the Discovery Center. I figure I owe them at least that to repay them for showing our grandkids that learning can be fun and exciting. They could learn what it's like to stand inside a giant soap bubble, to be a fireman, a pilot, a chef and one of their favorites, a TV Weather Man. They could shop in a miniature GIANT MARKET with miniature shopping carts, miniature food, miniature cash registers and sometimes see a miniature Akel checking out the store. Well, not really. The Discovery Center and the amazing outdoor Story Garden provided the answer to a kid's question on a dreary afternoon, “Well. What'll we do now?”

Unfortunately, the Discovery center is not immune to the financial stress put upon many local organizations by the pandemic, so the Read-a-thon is a way to have some fun and raise some much needed money.

I plan to have fun reading The Story of Ferdinand, one of my favorite stories when I was a kid. Now I have to do something I hate to do...ask you for money to show support for my reading and, of course, The Discovery Center. Every reader has to have a donation goal...mine is $250. Whether you can give $5 or $100, I am most grateful for your help.

Videos of all the readings will be compiled and streamed on YouTube on July 18th as part of a virtual reading marathon to support the Discovery Center. Then you too can have fun listening and watching. If I make my goal, I may be wearing a dazzling Matador outfit.
