Help Gillian Sloan and Support the Discovery Center Virtual Read-a-Thon!

Hi there Friends and Family!

Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my fundraising page. I am part of a Read- A -Thon to benefit The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier. What is a Read-a-Thon? It is like a marathon of reading! We ask you to provide monetary support to a reader—ME—so I can make my fundraising goal. Each reader not only fund-raises, we create of video of ourselves reading one or more of our favorite children's books. These videos will then be compiled and streamed on YouTube on July 18 as part of a virtual reading marathon to support The Discovery Center.

The Discovery Center has a very special place in my heart. I have worked here for almost two years now and every second has been incredible. If you don't know, The Discovery Center is an interactive children's museum located in Binghamton, NY that's filled with fun, education, and some of the most passionate people I have ever met. My role here has transformed multiple times over the years, starting off as just the weekend supervisor, with some hours as a summer camp teacher during the summer months, I then added the role of volunteer coordinator, and then another addition as the administrative assistant to the Executive Director. In all of these roles, I learned more about our community and just how incredible and needed The Discovery Center is for all age groups. As many across the world have had similar experiences, the Discovery Center was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. This fundraising event was created through the culmination of great minds and the need of financial aid from our wonderful supporters across the country. We have unfortunately had to cancel many of the annual events we hold that aid us in daily operations throughout the year, so this Read-a-thon is taking place of those events.

I want to support the Discovery Center any way I can. So, I am reading one of my favorite environmental children's books, and if you know me, I'm sure you already know what book I'm talking about --The Lorax by Dr. Seuss .
