Hi everyone, Thanks so much for checking out my fundraising page!

I took my 2 year old daughter, Addie, to the Discovery Center, and it brought back fond memories of when I spent time there as a child, and it also filled me with new feelings of joy as a parent watching my little one have so much fun learning through play and exploration!

When I saw the Read-a-Thon fundraiser, I was very interested in helping to support such an amazing establishment that fosters intelligence and creativity in little minds!

Childhood literacy is a passion of mine. Before becoming a stay at home mom, I was an elementary school teacher, and received my Master’s degree as a Reading Specialist. Reading out loud to my students was one of my favorite things to do. Now that I have children of my own, I thoroughly enjoy reading with them everyday! It brings me so much happiness to see my daughter developing her own love and appreciation of books!

I was a book consultant for Usborne Books and More (UBAM) for a period of time, and enjoyed watching our home library fill with hundreds of high quality children’s books! I also loved getting the books in hands of others!!

For the read-a-thon I plan to read one of our household favorites, “Dan the Taxi Man”. This is the description taken from the UBAM website where I purchased the book:

“Here's Dan, Beep! Beep! the Taxi Man, going to the show and picking up the band.

And what a band it is! A symphony of sounds and colors, this cumulative tale is as much fun to read aloud as it is to listen to.

Singer/songwriter, author and renowned performer Eric Ode has crafted a delightfully engaging cumulative verse brought to life by Kent Culotta’s exuberant paintings. The rhyme sings with the sounds belonging to the various instruments of each hip band member as they pile into Dan’s taxi, heading to the show.”

I look forward to reading this musical book, and would appreciate you to help me “drum up” some funds to support the Discovery Center in this great FUNdraiser centered around an important topic near and dear to my heart!

If you are kind enough to donate $10 or more, I will be putting your name in a drawing and the winner will receive a $20 gift certificate to the Discovery Center! (Would make a great gift if you don’t personally have a use for it, and if you’re not local and should win, I will work something out with you for a prize! )

I’m so excited!! Read on!
