Since last October I have had the privilege of being a part of The Discovery Center team - and it is such a wonderful place to be. Watching little ones eyes light up as they explore all the nooks and crannies this Museum has to offer -- so many places to learn and grow. But like so many organizations, keeping the Discovery Center's doors closed for the last several months has created significant financial challenges - and that's why we have created our Read-a-thon.

What is a Read-a-thon? It is like a marathon of reading where we ask you to support a reader in making their fundraising goal to support literacy efforts for children. Each reader not only fundraises, they create of video of themselves reading one or more of their favorite children's books. These videos will be compiled and streamed on YouTube on July 18 as part of a virtual reading marathon.

In times of stress, there is nothing like a great book to transport you to a different time or place - to let your imagination soar. I have so many memories of spending time here with my son when he was younger. Whether it was in the Museum or outside in the Story Garden, reading was always an important part of the experience. I love reading and am very proud to say my son loves reading as well. We can both disappear into a good book and the whole world fades away. I just miss the days when we got to read together.

I hope you will consider diving into a book with your little one and making a gift to support The Discovery Center today!
